At the Historic Buck Run, our mission is entirely focused on providing a lifelong, peaceful existence for animals that have been neglected, abandoned, or aged out of their previous lives for whatever reason. We provide a permanent Sanctuary for animals who have worked hard, been overlooked, or simply need a safe haven. When they come through our gates, they are here for good.

We believe the best way to teach empathy and stewardship is to get kids out of the classroom and into the dirt. Throughout the year, we selectively open the 92 acres of Historic Buck Run to local schools, youth programs, and educational groups for hands-on learning.
This isn't a sanitized petting zoo experience where animals are treated as props. We teach folks about the mental health benefits of simply standing in a pasture with a donkey, the medicinal value of the native plants lining our walking trails, and the grounding power of Mother Earth. More importantly, they get to meet the residents on the animals' own terms, learning to read behavior, understanding their individual stories, and seeing firsthand why giving them a permanent home matters. Kids leave with muddy boots, smelling like hay, and carrying a completely new perspective on animal welfare.

LITERALLY. Running a permanent Sanctuary for our animals is a massive undertaking. We built The Barn to help fund the animals' survival, but our gates are always open for direct support. A donation to The Sanctuary goes directly to ensure the herd stays fed and the property remains a place all animals are welcome.
